There are a lot of video recording platforms that welcome a catalogue of artists to join their YouTube collection, but the NPR Tiny Desk Concert series is one of my favorites.
If you’re unfamiliar with the series, artists typically sing three of their own songs to a crowd of NPR employees. The space is unique, backdropped by a large bookshelf filled with music, books, and other goodies, artists are left with only a ‘tiny’ space to set up their performance. The three songs are usually performed acoustically or with minimal instruments, as the space for full production isn’t allotted.
Unlike a typical venue gig, the lights are on and the artists can fully see the crowd. This evokes a bit of awkwardness which is kind of funny to see from artists who are used to performing in front of thousands of people.
I’ve picked out a few of my favorite performances to share with you below. They range far and wide so there’s a little something for everyone. Enjoy!
